Methotrexate is one of the most effective and commonly used medications in treating rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory arthritis. Methotrexate is an immunosuppressant that reduces your body’s immune system and helps reduce inflammation.
I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I take weekly injections of Methotrexate. I used to take Methotrexate in pill form, but the weekly injections work better for me, I took my Methotrexate injection the week before last. I take my injections at night since I take Benadryl with it- Benadryl makes me sleepy.
For me, Benadryl prevents a couple of side effects from the Methotrexate, but it does nothing for the cold sores and hair loss.
I took my injection and the next morning, I got extremely nauseated. The Benadryl didn’t work. I also got hot and clammy like menopause.
I traveled to the bathroom several times before the Prochlorperazine finally kicked in. Prochlorperazine is a medicine to counteract my nausea and need to vomit. Another thing that works for me is salt and vinegar potato chips.
I decided to drink a hot cup of green tea with ginger to soothe my stomach. I spent most of my day in bed relaxing and being grateful for so many things because things could have been worse.
