As I previously stated, I have been on Methotrexate for years. (Methotrexate is an immunosuppressant used to treat inflammatory conditions. It calms your immune system to help stop it from attacking your body’s cells).
Several years ago, I started taking the injection form of Methotrexate. I never liked needles, so I am surprised I managed to give myself the injections for so long.
I saw my Rheumatologist, a couple of weeks ago, and explained to her that I was tired of giving myself injections( my stomach looks like a war-torn country with many bruises). I asked if I could go back on the Methotrexate pills.
I was surprised and grateful when after the exam, she said that I could stop the injections. She stated that if I didn’t feel any improvements to let her know. I promised that I would.
I took my first dose of Methotrexate pills last week; I got sick almost immediately. I was highly nauseated; my Prochlorperazine didn’t relieve my symptoms. I ran to the bathroom several times with urges to vomit but did not. I didn’t recall the pills having that effect on me several years earlier. Maybe it was the sudden switch from the injections to the pills. It was awful! Not only was I nauseated, but I became light-headed as well.
It is strange how the medicines to cure and/or control our diseases give us side effects. Sometimes terrible side effects. However, I would take the nauseated and dizziness as long as it allows me more time with my family, but really WTH!
