WOMEN’S MONTH 2026
I am thinking back on some of the women who made this month possible. Women like Harriett Tubman. Social Activist- 1822- 1913. Susan B Anthony. Women’s Rights Activist-1806-1906. Angela Davis. American political activist and philosopher. January 1944-. Annie Leibovitz. American photographer. October 1949. Angela Bassett. Actress. August 1958. Diane Keaton. Actress. January 1946-October 2025.
These women have made, and some of them continue to make, tremendous contributions to our society. Their strength and determination have inspired and created opportunities for many.
Then I think about the women in my past: my mother, Beverly, my Nana, Shirley, my great-grandmother, Ora. My aunts Clarice, Bertha, Mildred, Doris, and Audrey. My bonus moms- Aunt Clara, my mother-in-law, Sarah Francis, Mom Deloris and Ann H. The love and support they have always given me reach far beyond their graves, and I still miss them.
As I continue to think about Women’s Month, I think about my 3 amazingly courageous sisters, Robin, Elaine, and Sherrie. My two beautiful daughters, Kanesha and Keshonna. My incredible granddaughters, Natalia, Ja’net, JIynn, Taryn, and Janelle, and my three precious great-granddaughters, Amirah, Azalea, and Alana, who are the future. My many, many nieces, whom I love as my own.
I am thinking about several women whose prayers, presence, kindness, and support throughout the years have meant a lot. Jo Anne M, Mabel M, Barbara M, Evelyn F, Diane N, Catherine S, Debra B, and Erin J. Gail S. Shequilla L. Lori W. Jennifer G. Marlene W. Glennie H.
My aunt Barbara H.C. is a woman of faith. She is living proof that God is Good. She is such a beautiful woman.
I’m also thinking about my dear friend Barbara R., who was sick for a while last year. I am so thankful to God that my friend is well today, because she means a lot to me.
There are many, many other women, too many to name in this particular blog. This month, I celebrate you in my heart.
Life doesn’t seem fair at times. Over the years, I’ve lost folks who meant so much to me. Several years ago, my beloved niece Keionna. And another beloved niece, Dakenya, a year ago. Special cousins, several years ago, Lillian and Darlene, whose presence brought an abundance of warmth into my life.
Last year was especially difficult, with the loss of two special friends, Jackie and Maryann. Even though I was not as close to them as I once was, their prayers, kindness, friendship, and support will always stay with me, and I will continue to cherish our conversations and the moments we shared.
If it is in God’s plan, I will celebrate my 67th birthday on the 23rd of this month. I will celebrate seeing a day that my dear mother (Still Resting In Peace)never had the opportunity to see. My mother died when she was very young. She never saw her grandchildren or her great-grandchildren. My sisters and I are extremely blessed!
I want to be intentional, not only this month but also patient as I strengthen my relationship with God. I want to be more Grateful. For the rest of this month, I want to respect Women’s Month by remembering women everywhere, in all their diversities, and their roles in history.
Until the next Blog, Be Blessed.
