Awareness Month for Health Issues

β€”

I recently had my annual visit to my cardiologist- thank God, everything was fine. I was a little cautious, because my diet, although better than ever, still needed tweaking. And I was not exercising like I should have been.

With April being Awareness Month for Health Issues I have been reflecting over the last year, and like many of us, I have had my challenges. My activity level and muscle mass still suck. My doctors said I need to do some squats, bench presses and weights. I don’t know about the bench presses, but perhaps I can try some squats and do some weight training

At one point last year a couple of doctors thought I had thyroid cancer, but I did not-thank God. I also tried Ozempic for my Type 2 Diabetes last year, but due to the rapid weight loss (which wasn’t my intent), I decided to get off. My getting off Ozempic didn’t do my diabetes any good; however, I am eating differently and trying to exercise more consistently.

There were days that were heavier than others. I was tested last year in ways that I wasn’t prepared for. The waiting, the uncertainty, the late-night thoughts that came when everyone was asleep and everything was quiet.

And even now, I still have mental health concerns. That part hasn’t just disappeared. But I can say this with honestyβ€” with God, my therapist, and my medication, I am headed in the right direction.

This month is a reminder that health and wellness isn’t just about what shows up on a doctor’s report. It’s about taking care of your whole selfβ€”the parts people see, and the parts they don’t.

And if I’ve learned anything this past year, it’s this: progress matters, even when it’s quiet.
